My 40th birthday!

I can't believe I didn't post a single thing about this. I spent all last year dreading it, then just accepted it and embraced it and had the best time.

My bestest friend in the whole world, Nazima, came to visit from Vancouver. A few girls went to dinner together, and then we danced the night away at the Druid. Here are some photos of that - thanks to Myrna:

Yes we were dancing on the table and yes we did get in trouble. I can count on Myrna to keep things interesting!

So you all want to see what I bought myself for my birthday? Yes, I have officially completed the mid-life crisis with a tattoo. Which is quite beautiful if I do say so myself - thanks David (Pagan Tatu if you want one for yourself http://www.pagantatu.com/) My friend Mike took these photos with his cell phone - yes it would have been better had you removed the cellophane over the lens, but the thought was a good one. He sat with me while it was being done and was very encouraging - kept assuring me that the monkey head was coming along nicely. Thanks for that!

For all of you that wonder or want to ask "did it hurt?" - yes it bloody well hurt! You try jabbing yourself about a million times with needle and injecting die into your skin and see what you think. I was in the chair just over 3 hours, which apparently is a lot for a first timer and he said I was a toughy - nary a flinch.

I will be getting some sharper images of it soon, will post later. It is two koi fish swimming in a circle - they symbolize good luck, prosperity and my sign - pisces. The symbol in the middle is "strength" which means not only physical, but mental, spiritual, inner strength.

So there you have it.

Here's a sharper photo of it, thanks Lorna!

Well - you're braver than I am.

All I did was go to NYC (from NZ) for my 40th!

Our friend T in Melbourne has tattoos all over her. Everytime I see a new piece of bare skin, there appears to be a tattoo somewhere near it!

On her right arm, she has 4 different ones in a circle around her upper arm - 1 for each of her 4 daughters. She has shoulder and back ones as far as I can see, plus one on her stomach - ouch!

She even had cosmetic tattoing done on her eyelids so that she has permanent eyeliner.

Crazy chick!

And belated Happy 40th Darlene!
