My 40th birthday!

I can't believe I didn't post a single thing about this. I spent all last year dreading it, then just accepted it and embraced it and had the best time.

My bestest friend in the whole world, Nazima, came to visit from Vancouver. A few girls went to dinner together, and then we danced the night away at the Druid. Here are some photos of that - thanks to Myrna:

Yes we were dancing on the table and yes we did get in trouble. I can count on Myrna to keep things interesting!

So you all want to see what I bought myself for my birthday? Yes, I have officially completed the mid-life crisis with a tattoo. Which is quite beautiful if I do say so myself - thanks David (Pagan Tatu if you want one for yourself http://www.pagantatu.com/) My friend Mike took these photos with his cell phone - yes it would have been better had you removed the cellophane over the lens, but the thought was a good one. He sat with me while it was being done and was very encouraging - kept assuring me that the monkey head was coming along nicely. Thanks for that!

For all of you that wonder or want to ask "did it hurt?" - yes it bloody well hurt! You try jabbing yourself about a million times with needle and injecting die into your skin and see what you think. I was in the chair just over 3 hours, which apparently is a lot for a first timer and he said I was a toughy - nary a flinch.

I will be getting some sharper images of it soon, will post later. It is two koi fish swimming in a circle - they symbolize good luck, prosperity and my sign - pisces. The symbol in the middle is "strength" which means not only physical, but mental, spiritual, inner strength.

So there you have it.

Here's a sharper photo of it, thanks Lorna!

Some new things for me

Hi again

For those that are in the know, you probably already have seen or heard about the changes I've made to my lifestyle. I now not only play sports (floor hockey for 2 more weeks, then start flag football) and work out at the gym 3 times a week - BUT I totally love every minute of it. Even when I took an elbow to the chin in hockey. Shock it off (after I sat down for a minute) and kept playing. Actually had a bruise on my face from that one!

Here is are some photos with some team mates and me in action:

Yes I'm #13 and yes my nickname is indeed "Crash"! Some of my team mates include: Dizzy, Choas, Krazyk, Lawman, Gunner, Rhino, Skippy, Partytown, The Yeti, Mayhem, and Slapstick. We were dead last in our first "season" and this time around we ended up 5th of 10. I'd say that's a move up - mostly thanks to the stellar goal tending - thanks Kirt!

Where does the time go?

Hi all

I apologize for not posting anything on here in a long while. I've been busy as most of us are - how does this happen? How do we stop the train and get off for a while? Where to start . . .

Okay, May - here are some photos of my nephew Carter I took when he was 6 months old last month. He is just the cutest thing, but I'm not biased.

Also in May I entered the City Chase competition with my friend Jaime. You can read about it here:
http://www.mitsubishicitychase.com/en_site.asp

Basically it's kinda like the Amazing Race reality show, but on a smaller scale in one city at a time and you have 6 hours to complete 10 of the 15 check points. We completed it in just over 5 hours, the winners did it in 2:44:18! A team of two women no less - girl power! Of the 300+ teams that entered, only 190 some actually finished within the deadline, so coming in 107th our first time was pretty good.

We did things like: built a tower out of bendy straws that had to hold a golf ball for 10 seconds; tai kwan do (Jaime broke a board with his foot while I held it); built an Ikea table then sold it for $25 for the Make a Wish Foundation; a blindfolded yoga pose; took our photos with residents at a senior's home; did some funky dance moves; solved word puzzles; solved a math puzzle; road the mechanical bull for 8 seconds each; made hats out of corn; did feats at the fire hall like carrying the dummy (Jaime again) and spraying the hose and rolling it back up again. Oh and did I mention LOTS of walking/running!

Here's a drawing of us we got in Strathcona market - we bought this drawing from an artist there and he bought our table for charity.

I couldn't have done it without a great partner though, thanks Jaime! I think I'll do it again next year. Maybe a girls team - who's up for it?
